Us Girls by Emily Haywood

Womanhood is understanding.
It’s passing period pads
To strangers in the toilets.
It’s secret glances in a group
When boys act dumb.
Its sharing perfume,
Lip gloss and highlighter,
Even if there’s barely
Anything left in the bottle.
It’s drunken compliments
And safety in numbers.
It’s Send me a message
when you get there
and Let me know if you
need an excuse to leave.
Womanhood is a compassion
That society chooses to turn
Their back to. Yet we have
Something just for us.
